Facebook has acquired anonymous teen compliment app TBH. The App which is available on the Apple App Store and noted as coming soon to the Google Play store.

The acquisition will see TBH continue to operate independently much like Instagram and Whatsapp but not quite.

TBH employees will become Facebook employees compliment with facebook email addresses and join the Facebook HQ at Menlo Park as opposed to having their own building.

The Anonymous Teen Compliment App lets users  (Teens) anonymously answer kind-hearted multiple choice questions about friends who then receive the polling results as a compliment. The App has scored over 5 million downloads and 2.5 million daily active users in the nine weeks.

Not only has it received 5 Million downloads but also racked up over 1 billion poll answers since its launch in August to a select group of teens and high school students along with spending weeks at the top of the free app charts.

When we met with Facebook, we realized that we shared many of the same core values about connecting people through positive interactions. Most of all, we were compelled by the ways they could help us realize tbh’s vision and bring it to more people.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the deal is indicative of being less than a $100 million hence no regulatory approval was required.

Questions abound in some minds as to why Facebook didn’t simply clone tbh, a platform with strong branding and great traction.

It seems clear that facebook took a liking to this app and thought it best to acquire the app and its team.
