Mozilla is crowdsourcing the new Firefox logo. The new look comes in the form a new set of modern and sleek logos to match its brand grouped in “two design system”.
Firefox is iconic for its logo of an orange fox curled around a blue ball seen on the right.
Firefox is not limited to its Desktop and Mobile browser, it’s starting to offer new apps such as its VR Browser, Focus browser and Services.
Over the years the logo has gone through a number of slight changes. The current Logo used for Firefox Quantum is a much brighter take on the Logo transitions.
The Process is ongoing and progress was shared by Chris Murray, Creative Director at Mozilla on via thier blog.
Each system leads with a new Firefox masterbrand icon — an umbrella under which our product lines will live.
The Design systems are listed in order of :
- Masterbrand – Used as the Main Brand logo across All product lines.
- Firefox Quantum Browsers – Firefox Quantum, Firefox Nightly and Firefox Developer
- Firefox Reality browser for VR applications and our privacy-driven Firefox Focus mobile browser, share a common design approach for their icons.
- Finally, the icons for new applications and services
System 1 presents a fox’s head in bright orange, yellow, and magenta, who doesn’t seem to present the fire but does evolve the logo from its iconic look. System 2 on the other hand keeps the iconic look and evolves the brand with a more modern look.
If i were to choose i would obviously choose system 2. The Mockup below gives a great overview of how the logo will be used.
The company stresses that it is not crowdsourcing its new designs or asking people to vote or come up with their own submissions. It is simply requesting feedback on the icons in their current state.
The logo system selected will all come down to feedback it received and which system truly reflex an “Evolution”.
