Sony is celebrating God of War’s first anniversary with a Video and Free Stuff

Sony Santa Monica Studios kicks of thier celebration of thier popular mythology-based action-adventure video game franchise, God of War with a free PS4 dynamic theme, available to download now.

A year since its release, The Studio marks the occasion with a thank you video and stuff you can download even if you have even played the game.

“In 2015, we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of God of War, having started the saga back in 2005. And, so, here we are reflecting on the one year anniversary of a new era for Kratos, now with his son, Atreus.” wrote Shannon Studstill, head of Santa Monica Studio.

“Thank you to our entire worldwide team; the Sony PlayStation family and you, the millions of God of War fans around the world who embraced that leap with us, on a journey we never expected. We made this journey together.

In honor of you, our fans, we’re starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War. I’m very happy to indulge you with a small token of our appreciation.”

The Blog post concludes “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing the new God of War and for helping Santa Monica Studio rise up to a new beginning as well. From our whole team to you, that has meant everything to us. Now, we have a long journey ahead. “

Did you Say Free Stuff?

Players and None Players alike can download the new dynamic PS theme depicting Kratos and Atreus on the Lake of Nine from Now until Wednesday, April 17.

You can also download the new God of War Anniversary character PS4 avatar which has gold outlines of characters background by the color red and centered by the God of War logo, seen below.

Both Freebies are available via the PSN Store where you don’t need the game to actually access them.

God of War has garnered numerous awards such as Game of the year at GDC 2019, D.I.C.E Awards 2019 and The Game Awards 2018. Its acclaim didn’t end there, the game also recently took home BAFTA’s Best Game Award earlier this month along with three other BAFTA’s for Narrative, Music and Audio Achievement.

The game nabbed three more BAFTAs for Narrative, Music, and Audio Achievement, while Jeremy Davies won the BAFTA for Best Performer for his portrayal of The Stranger.
